We can’t help ourselves any time we come across a video or article about being successful or about money and finance.
“I need to know more about this” is the thought that plagued our minds.
The reason for reading the article or watching the video becomes undetectable; we want to succeed and we want to make a lot of money too.
But did that ambition make us addicted to these articles and videos? I cease not to wonder.
I’d sometimes leave some work undone solely because I got drowned in another money video. I believe most of us can resonate with that; those times when “just a minute” turns to “Oh shit, 5 long hours gone.” And you come to think about how you spent the 5 hours on something that was not worth the time.
1. You Have Control But You Can’t Control
This is the fact we are running away from. Many of us will say, I have control over everything in my life, my relationship, my success, my money, and so on. But the truth is often the bitter part of it. You barely know that you have little to no control over these things, especially money. Many of us are controlled by money, by success, and even by others. If you escape the first you can not run away from the second or the third.
Did we have control? Yes, But we can’t control. There is a huge difference between having control over things and actually controlling things.
Money comes and money goes, new relationships are forged and old relationships collapsed, goals change every time and there is nothing we can do about it. So, I’m sorry to you that we can’t control what happens in life. But that will not stop us from doing the best we can. Nothing remains the same; it either gets better or gets worse and that depends on the actions we take.
2. Success Is At A High Cost
Since we have little to no control over things that happen in life, success is at a high rate; we try to attain success but at the expense of other important things, we charter relationships, spend less time with our family, self-care is neglected as well; our health and happiness, all that for the sake of success, fame and wealth. In the end, we are left with agony in our chests and a bunch of minted papers.
The reward of success becomes detestable when no one cares about you. Everyone around you is only interested in the money, not you. If the money is gone, they too will be gone.
Only did we realize that in the pursuit of success, wealth, and fame; we are trading our self-value for money, success, and fame; Those who value you when you have nothing are those who truly care about you. With money comes pretense.
So, no matter what you do, make sure to play this game of success wisely. If not, you may not be satisfied with the result.
3. Wealth Doesn't Guarantee Happiness
Deep down inside our hearts, what we truly want is to be happy, to enjoy our time, to enjoy our life with the right amount of love.
That’s often the reason we strive to acquire wealth so that we can be happy, to have the time to explore and enjoy our life.
Yes? Of course, but what we fail to understand is that wealth is not a guarantee of happiness nor is it a guarantee of having lots of time.
It can be quite the opposite; I rarely see those who acquire wealth leaving their business for leisure. There’s one popular quote that they usually say,
“Time is Money”
I bet you have heard of that one before. What about,
“A single second can worth a million dollars”
Now, let me ask you this, how many wealthy people will choose to spend an hour without working,
“Well recently they are getting smarter, they put their team to work while enjoying their life” some may say. But let me get this straight, if you are the owner of Starbucks or Tesla, will you relax and enjoy your life? I doubt that.
Just like the quote that talks about a single second worthing a million bucks; a single error can cause a million losses as well.
Will you still relax and enjoy your life when 100 errors are made in your company every single day? That’s about 100 million dollars(100 errors X 1 million), Lol, I doubt that as well.
My point is that successful or wealthy people have no time to enjoy life, they probably find joy in working for the progress of their company. In fact, you have more leisure time than them.
4. Find Balance And Be Grateful
Lastly and most importantly, strive for balance and be grateful for who you are, where you are, and where you are headed. Not everyone has the ambition to be successful nor has what it takes to be successful, at least that’s what some people usually say. As much as I don't believe it, I can’t ignore it either.
It is important to find a balance between our work life and our personal life, between ambition and religion, and between material possessions and relationships.
If we solely focus on success, what comes after success can be soul-consuming.
I have read stories of people who quit their high-paying jobs for low pay and their reason is nothing but pure wisdom; to have enough time to spend on things that matter most in their life. What could matter more than money? Some may ask, well think again.
And if you can get the answer after your rethink, do not panic. I am working on an article that will answer that question (Little Things In Life Matter). So follow and subscribe to my free newsletter.
And finally be appreciative of who you are, where you are, where you are headed and importantly those around you; Be grateful for how far you have come, how well you have been, those dreams that you have, those who cheer with you as you progress and those who hate and envy you. The last one came as a shock, right? Yeah, those people are playing their part in your story of life; no one life is perfect, and there will surely be criticisms, either publicly or secretly. Those criticisms and related have a role to play in your journey of life. So be grateful for it too.
